Ford, JPMorganChase, the State of Michigan, Michigan Central and Newlab in Detroit have launched Michigan LIFT — the Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation — a platform designed to link innovative suppliers with industrial buyers, financing and state resources. Ford is positioned as the founding anchor industrial buyer and said it intends to award up to $1 billion in business through the platform to new and existing suppliers.
JPMorganChase has committed to provide up to $1 billion in financing to support suppliers’ growth, while Michigan Central, Newlab and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation are working to recruit additional industrial buyers with the goal of securing more than $1 billion in annual demand by 2036. The initiative is structured as demand-led, meaning buyer commitments are used to help suppliers qualify for capital and expand production capability.
In parallel to the platform announcement, Ford Philanthropy and JPMorganChase pledged $550,000 in joint support for Detroit nonprofit Focus: HOPE. For Michigan automotive and manufacturing stakeholders, Michigan LIFT represents a coordinated effort to convert buyer demand into financing and capacity-building for suppliers; the partners say the next steps include onboarding suppliers, attracting more buyers and deploying the committed capital.
